DESCRIPTION:  \nPresented by Richard Wolak \nIt was more than 70 years after Antarctica was first sighted in 1820 that mankind finally began to explore the continent in 1892. The subsequent 30-year period is often referred to as the Heroic Age in Antarctica\, a time of initial winter habitation and audacious treks inland toward the South Pole.
